The theme of this year's World Earth Day is "OUR POWER, OUR PLANET." On Friday, April 19, 2024, we reinforced our efforts to recognize the quality of our water sources and reduce the use of plastic in our everyday lives with the Tap Water Certificate, awarded as part of the Together for a Better Society initiative. As the recipient of the certificate, we have committed to:
- Offer only tap water on our premises and at events we organize.
- Raise awareness that Slovenia has high-quality drinking water, which is healthier and more environmentally friendly than pre-packaged water.
- Encourage employees, partners, customers, and other stakeholders to drink tap water.
- Serve tap water in glass jugs and glasses, avoiding bottled water whenever possible.
In Slovenia, unlike some other environments, there is no need to consume bottled water. Clean, fresh, safe drinking tap water, supplied by Slovenian utility companies, is constantly at our fingertips. Tap water is fresher than bottled water, as it does not stand in packaging in warehouses and shops, where it loses its value. It is of higher quality, as it does not release microparticles from plastic packaging. It is also safer, as municipal water supply systems are under stricter control than the bottled water industry.
Only tap water is available in our offices. By obtaining the certificate, we set an example for eliminating environmentally harmful practices and encourage everyone to adopt kinder, more sustainable, and wiser approaches to daily water use. We actively draw attention to the importance of reducing waste and implement measures to care for the health of our employees.
Why drink tap water?
- A More Eco-Friendly Choice: More than a million plastic bottles are bought around the world every minute, and the biological decomposition of plastic bottles can take up to 1,000 years.
- More Affordable Than Bottled Water: In Slovenia, a litre of tap water is up to 1,000 times cheaper than bottled water.
- More Health-Friendly Than Other Drinks: Two-thirds of the human body is made up of water. Water removes waste products from the body and is essential for human health and well-being.
- A Better Energy Choice: A litre of bottled water consumes 2,000 times more energy than a litre of drinking tap water.
